Arrieta

Arrieta is a small fishermen village in the northern part of Lanzarote, on the eastern coast. It is less popular among major amount of tourists and their demands of full comfort resorts, however, Arrieta is a good place for tradition and romantic seekers. Few hundreds of inhabitants used to live as fishermen and their families, but nowadays and Arrieta has some minor adaptations for tourism.

In Arrieta you can see how fishermen every calm morning goes to the see as to work. For fishing purpose there is a small harbour. There is ability to stay in few hundred years old fishermen’s house and feel their live. That is a great place to see and to feel traditional Lanzarote and taste very fresh fish at local restaurants.

While staying in Arrieta, you could still feel full comfort holidays. High quality apartments, few restaurants, cafes and the most important thing – the beach. Almost one kilometer long sandy coast in Arrieta – its beach – is called Playa de la Garita. Because of very cleen water, Playa de la Garita has a Blue flag award. This is a perfect beach for common beach activities – sunbathing, swimming, surfing or snorkeling, paddling. Here you can try something more exotic – fishing. For families with there is a children’s playground.

In Arrieta there is a well known fuel station and a huge supermarket. So many tourists stops here on their way to the north or south of the island. If you are planning to be one oh them, do not miss a chance to see Arrieta village, even for few hours of walking or eating in high quality fish restaurant. Worth it! As in many more or less tourism related villages, in Arrieta there are many shops, souvenirs, cafes and see – front restaurants (for example, Casa de la Playa or the kiosk at Chiringo). One of the most popular sightseeing spots in Arrieta is a Blue house – Casa Juanita. It doesn’t conform to the building law of the island, so the composition of blue tiles and big red bricks looks really unique. Also, in Arrieta there is a small museum, dedicated mostly to well known Aloe Vera plant.

Arrieta is about 30 kilometers from the capital of Lanzarote – Arrecife. You can reach this fishermen village with the taxi (for about a tax of 20 euros) or just rent a car. Car hire in Lanzarote in most cases is very reliable as you increase your mobility and can visit more interesting places and spots. Including Arrieta, of course.

Weather in Arrieta is really mild. Weather is suitable for all year round travelling. Coldest months are January – February, when temperature can drop to 14 degrees Celsius or even more. The most warm period in Lanzarote is summer, July to September. Average high temperature reaches 30 degrees, sometimes can reach even 40 degrees Celsius.

Arrieta restaurants

El Amanecer. Highly rated restaurant in Arrieta. It serves fresh seafood but it is often crowded with people and there are only few tables with sea view. The staff is really fast, friendly and helpful.

Restaurante el Marinero. It is a cute little restaurant with view to the ocean or view down to glass floor. Staff is really attentive and helpful and the prices are not high.

Restaurante el Lago. It offers you great delicious food and wines. Food is realy fresh, including local fish. It has good value for money.
